UrbanPlan: Calling on Volunteers for next Training on February 6th!
January 8, 2015
UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging, and academically demanding classroom-based curriculum in which students learn about the fundamental forces that affect development in the U.S.
For the 8th year, UrbanPlan volunteers will be at McClatchy High School in April conducting UrbanPlan and engaging with 120 Senior Econ students twice during this 3 week course. ULI also provides volunteer leadership to serve as the “City Council” to hear the team’s presentations and select a winning proposal. Ongoing training of volunteers is important in order for UrbanPlan to expand to other high schools.
Many of our UrbanPlan volunteers say it’s the most rewarding volunteer experience in their careers. In order for us to keep the program alive, and to be able to expand into other high schools,
we train new volunteers from time to time, and our next training day opportunity is Friday, February 6, 2015 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at Wood Rodgers.
Heidi Tschudin, Tschudin Consulting Group, an UrbanPlan volunteer says, “UrbanPlan is amazing. I’ve been a land use planner for 30 years and an instructor for much of that time, and I have never seen a program connect the dots so well for these kids. They become engaged, and they grapple with real trade-offs about real issues. Plus what’s not to like..combining legos and spreadsheets is brilliant!”
