California’s housing crisis has become so severe that, in many parts of the state, market rate housing is now affordable only to those with relatively high incomes.  In contrast, “affordable” housing continues to focus on rental apartments for households on the low end of the income spectrum. But what about those households that can’t afford market-rate housing but also don’t qualify for affordable housing? How do we create housing for those in the “Missing Middle”?

Join us in examining these questions during ULI’s March Think Tank, moderated by Robin Baral, ULI Housing Committee Chair, with experts developing “missing middle” development. Shawna Purvines, CDRA Deputy Director at Placer County, will share current efforts to help create housing for households earning incomes in the middle of the income spectrum, in both the extreme Truckee/NorthTahoe market and less extreme but still challenging South Placer market.  John Jarecki, VP of Land Acquisition for DR Horton, will also provide insights on what it takes to deliver homes at prices that are affordable to Missing Middle households in the Sacramento Region.
