ULI Sacramento held a webinar addressing how ADU property types could impact the affordable housing crisis. Even though we’re in this COVID-19 environment, construction is an essential service and the housing crisis continues to be a pressing issue. We heard from a panel on two jurisdictions who have recently updated their ADU codes and also from an architect who has gone through the design/build process. Special thanks Sarah Ellis, Ellis Architects; Garrett Norman, City of Sacramento; Desmond Parrington, City of Folsom; and moderator Bob Chase, Chase Consulting.

We’re also sharing a recent report from ULI Chicago on Unlocking Accessory Dwelling in Chicago with recommendations to encourage the creation of accessory dwelling units in single-family homes and 2-4 flats as well as larger multi-family residential buildings to increase the supply of housing units in Chicago.
