UrbanPlan just completed at McClatchy High School
April 22, 2012
UrbanPlan, ULI’s educational outreach to teach high school students about the complexities of the development process has just been completed at McClatchy with 140 students taking part. This marks ULI Sacramento’s 7th year involvement with McClatchy. Students learned about the tradeoffs between profits and equity issues, between jobs and development returns, and the complex political and economic process it takes to undertake development in today’s world.
Heidi Tschudin, Tschudin Consulting Group, an UrbanPlan volunteer says, “UrbanPlan is amazing. I’ve been a land use planner for 30 years and an instructor for much of that time, and I have never seen a program connect the dots so well for these kids. They become engaged, and they grapple with real trade-offs about real issues. Plus what’s not to like..combining legos and spreadsheets is brilliant!”
