Commercial real estate served the Bay Area’s economy, which was shaped in the business parks of Silicon Valley, the old urban core of San Francisco, the freeways, BART and the suburbs. Covid forced changes in behaviors that disrupted longstanding patterns - and locations - of work and living.
A few corporate relocations out of California grab headlines. But the profound impact will be changes in the preferences and habits of the Bay Area labor force of 2.5 million, many with specialized skills and need for collaboration.
What will be the new roles for the historic regional business centers? How will new transit ridership and auto commuting patterns affect the region’s housing sub-markets?
