Program Overview:
Since 2016, the City of Sacramento has been intentional about changing the city’s reputation from a “government town” to a city that was synonymous with technological innovation, efficiency, and connectivity in all mediums, or simply put, a “Smart City.”
A Smart City recognizes the opportunity for information and technology as a tool to provide services to all its citizens: including accessibility, affordability, choices, coordination, and efficiency.
With the Smart City Initiative and the selection of the Innovation Officer Louis Stewart, the city has made great strides in establishing Sacramento as a “tech forward” city.  From Jump Bikes, to 5G wireless networks, to autonomous vehicles, to the $44 million dollar Electrify America Grant, the Smart City Initiative is changing the way Sacramentans live, work, and play now and into the future.
Join us for a discussion with
Louis Stewart
on how the City’s Innovation goals are impacting development and transportation in the City of Sacramento.
Louis Stewart currently serves as the City of Sacramento’s first Chief Innovation Officer. He is responsible for the development of a broad citywide portfolio of programs and initiatives that support, drive, influence and build upon the City of Sacramento’s economic inclusion philosophy, business development strategies, goals, customer relationships and business results. Mr. Stewart has been key in making Sacramento the nation’s first 5 G City and spearheading the City’s autonomous vehicle deployment.  Prior to his role at the City, he spent the last seven years serving as California’s Deputy Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz).  He managed a robust statewide innovation-based economic development support network of regional innovation clusters called the California Innovation Hubs (iHubs).
Mr. Stewart is a former professional basketball player with a degree from Santa Clara University.
