ULI Recommends Steps to Support Redevelopment

In response to the dissolution of California’s redevelopment program, ULI members from across California have teamed up to recommend tools to promote balanced growth and build sustainable and healthy communities.  A working group of ULIsf prepared the paper, After Redevelopment: New Tools and Strategies to Promote Economic Development and Build Sustainable Communities, to recommend a comprehensive set of tools to promote economic development and build sustainable and healthy communities in California given the demise of redevelopment. ULI Sacramento Wins Grant for “Transforming Downtown Plaza: A Vision for Downtown Sacramento”

During ULI’s Fall Meeting in Denver this week, ULI announced the winners for the ULI FY13 Urban Innovation Grants.  ULI Sacramento was one in fifteen district councils awarded a grant this round.  ULI Sacramento was awarded $15,000 to lead a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) exploring opportunities for a new vision for Sacramento’s downtown plaza by convening public and private partners to provide expertise on the downtown mall as well as a catalyst for other downtown projects. City Staff presents Council with “ULI’s Daniel Rose Railyards Study Final Report”

At the Tuesday, August 21 City Council meeting, Fran Halbakken, city railyard development manager, presented highlights from the final report “Redeveloping the Railyards to Strengthen the Urban Core” published by the Urban Land Institute’s Daniel Rose Fellowship program.  Sacramento was selected as one of four cities in the country to take part in this year-long program with a specific land use challenge “The Railyards” as the focus.
